Of mice and men- Character description

George

Symbolism of name

  • The name George has a Greek origin and means tiller of the the soil. In the novel ‘Of Mice and men’ the character George has a dream to own his own land one day. I believe the author chose this name deliberately because this name reinforces that George wants to be a famer.

Speech

  • George speaks exactly how he is thinking. He is outspoken and uses swearing continuosly. He frequently speaks of how much better his life would be without having to look after Lennie, but of coarse he is devoted to him.

Appearance

  • George has short black hair, is quick, very restless, had dark eyes and face. George always wears a brown hat.

  • George looks after Lennie very well. He treats Lennie bad sometimes but doesn’t really mean it. George’s world revolves around Lennie and he’s looking for the American dream.

Other

  • George is very quiet and he keeps to himself. He doesn’t want any trouble between people. He is kind and caring. He is a good character and plays a good friend.
